TAPs Exhibition 2025 Highlights: Empowering Professionals in Education Through Artistic Practice

TAPs Exhibition 2025 Highlights: Empowering Professionals in Education Through Artistic Practice

The launch of the Teachers as Practitioners (TAPs) Exhibition at Bangkok Patana School was a spectacular celebration of creativity, courage and passion between 31 January and 7 February 2025.

As the curator and project lead of this exhibition, I created the TAPs programme to highlight the transformative power of creativity in education – to help teachers and staff reconnect with their identities as artists and creatives beyond the classroom.

Art as a Celebration of Connection

The ‘Patana Canvases’ exhibition was more than a display of artwork. It was a celebration of community – its stories, spirit and courage to create. Through painting, poetry, music, dance, performance and photography our staff shared personal expressions of joy, healing, exploration and purpose.

Behind the Scenes: How TAPs Inspires

From the inception of the project as a research community, the TAPs programme has aimed to nurture:

  • Creativity and wellbeing
  • Innovation in pedagogy
  • Professional growth through artistic exploration
  • Cross-disciplinary connection

Throughout the year, staff engaged in workshops and mentoring, developing their personal practices while learning how to integrate creativity more meaningfully into their roles as educators and professionals.

We showcased these journeys in the exhibition through not just finished works but also process photos, reflections and conversations. The experience gave rise to genuine curiosity among students who began asking teachers questions about their work, medium and meaning.

Community Engagement

One of the most heartening aspects was the community feedback. Nearly 200 comments were submitted – many from students visiting with their teachers – reflecting how deeply the artwork resonated.

Some staff artists even shared that conversations ignited by student reflections gave them a renewed sense of confidence and connection. I collected these comments and passed them on to the artists they were addressed to, offering appreciation, insight and affirmation. It’s a small but powerful reminder of how art can build community, ignite dialogue and nurture empathy in learning environments.
