Performing Truths at Collage Arts London: Poetry, Activism and Self-Discovery

Creativity has the remarkable ability to awaken our deepest truths and connect us with others. Through writing, performance or teaching, sharing our authentic voices gives confidence, empathy and sparks change — both within ourselves and in the communities to which we belong. I am passionate about nurturing this creative energy in every space I engage with, believing that when we empower individuals to express their stories, we cultivate resilience and hope for a better world.

I had the most amazing time performing my words to an incredible audience at KaramelN22 in Collage Arts London, sharing the stage with Kat Francois — the first poet to win a televised poetry slam in the UK and then the World Slam Championships. This was my longest commissioned set yet, featuring poems exploring identity, activism and self-discovery — 25 minutes of non-stop word spinning!

The event series, titled Poetry & Poppadoms, was hosted by the wonderful Paul Lyalls, a seasoned performer who has appeared at ten Edinburgh Festivals, five Glastonbury Festivals, on BBC TV and BBC Radio, and was the first poet to perform at Wembley Stadium. He has worked with poets and artists such as Michael Rosen, Benjamin Zephaniah, Kae Tempest and Miranda Hart, to name a few.

I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity to share my work alongside such inspiring artists. The profound impact of my active engagement in the writing and arts community on my teaching and curriculum design becomes more evident each year. Sharing my performance and publishing projects with students, coaching them to unlock their creative potential and confidence, fosters voices for positive change in the world — making it authentic and transformative learning in action.

How can you use your own creative voice to inspire change and connection in your community?
