Creativity connects us all – whether through spoken word, visual art or shared stories. It challenges norms, uplifts voices and encourages communities to embrace their authentic selves.
I had an incredible time performing my poetry on the Words Stage at the Whitecross Street Party 2022 in London. I performed a 15-minute set twice during the programme, alongside inspiring storytellers and poets published by BBC Arts, HarperCollins and Penguin Publishing Group, including Sandra Agard, Rob Auton, Paul Lyalls and many more of the community’s most talented artists and performers.
The festival’s theme, ‘The Rise of the Non-Conformists’, celebrated the area’s rich history of defiance and creativity. The outdoor exhibition featured live-painted artworks installed on buildings along Whitecross Street – one of London’s most unique street art events inspired by its nonconformist heritage.
My performance featured empowering poetry inspired by the street art display, touching on women’s empowerment, identity, the importance of nature, and the vital role of poetry and creative expression in our lives.
