I’ve been loving working with a new medium lately: I’ve been loving working with a new medium lately: acrylic knife painting and decoupaging my poetry onto canvas.There’s something special about the buttery thickness of colour, texture and form. Each piece brings together poetry and paint, creating a different way for my words to be seen, felt and experienced.For this collection, my process has been a little different. I start by painting a scene, feeling or moment that I’m drawn to, and then I return to my hundreds of poems to find the words that feel like a match for the painting.Sometimes the painting comes first. Sometimes the poem feels like it was waiting for that particular canvas.The unifying thread across my art has always been my words. Whether through my black-and-white imagist concrete poems, photography or these new, more colourful and textured paintings, I want my work to leave you feeling empowered, uplifted and inspired.'Hope in Bloom' is the beginning of a growing collection, rooted in hope, growth & renewal. 🌿This is just a little glimpse of the works. I wro what if moss could heal the world’s wounds?I wrote this poem in just 10 minutes during an inspiring 'Noticing Nature' poetry workshop at @wordsworthgrasmere in the stunning Lake District 🌿Walking through Wordsworth's woodland, we explored the “textures of sound,” noticed the smallest details and listened to Wordsworth’s own poetry in the landscape that shaped it.I chose moss — soft, resilient, ancient — as my focus. Altho some paintings pull you into their storm...Although @redroompoetry #PoetryMonth has ended its incredible chapter this year, I still have a few final #30in30 submissions to share!This one came from a prompt by the brilliant Amy Crutchfield: “Visit one of the world’s galleries virtually. What impresses, unsettles, or surprises you? Lean into the discomfort. Write about it.”I turned to Van Gogh’s Starry Night - a painting I often use in my ekphrasis workshops and poetry classes to spark imagination. Its restless skies and rippling indigo tides of light feel like both wonder and unease at once. It was a dream.I’ve been listening to Taylor since I was a teenager and her extraordinary prowess of words has walked with me through so many chapters of life. As a writer, poet, and English teacher, I’ve always appreciated her as a poet — her work is literature so rich for analysis!Seeing her now, stepping into her own Love Story and finding her End Game 💍 is heartwarming.
