Workshops
Description
These ekphrastic writing workshops are carefully curated according to a range of artists, cultures and themes, helping you to discover more about art history and deepen your appreciation with visual art. Participants will engage in a variety of writing exercises, poetry forms and approaches – for example, some of the strategies includes modulating the point of view, deciding who will be the speaker(s) in the poem, and taking the freedom to see the work in an unconventional way or several alternate ways, and writing quick observations that can be edited later. The best ekphrastic poems are written using preliminary notes made by standing directly in front of the painting in museums and galleries, or by viewing reproductions of works of art on the web.
Everyone is welcome – established writers, aspiring and first time writers, lovers of art and art history, and everyone in between. These workshops are supportive, challenging, fun and intimate.
Participants will have the option to feature their edited works created from the sessions in The Writer’s Gallery. All workshops include the option of gathering 15 minutes early for a casual chat. If you miss or cancel your workshop date, we will accommodate you in a future session.
