Purnima is an award-winning Australian-Thai writer, poet, author and artist. Whilst creating, Purnima inspires a love for writing in others through teaching the craft to Secondary school students and adults in her role as an educator of English language and literature, creative writing and spoken word poetry.

The Creative Writers’ Studio

The Creative Writers’ Studio is a creative hub for emerging and established writers, poets, authors and educators, with the mission of fostering the enjoyment, confidence and learning of creative writing through online and in-person workshops, meet-ups, casual writing sessions and creative events.

Founded and facilitated by Purnima, the workshops aim to stimulate creative inspiration, expand your creative community and encourage writing experimentation, which can spark new ideas that may lead to the development and publication of poems and stories.

Poetry for Change and Action (Online and In-Person Workshops)

This workshop is for anyone interested in exploring how poetry can support processes of change and activism. In the first hour, we will look at how poems have been used to speak truth to power and amplify seldom-heard, underrepresented and culturally diverse voices. In the second hour, we’ll help you consider how you might use poetry to express your own experiences and beliefs, and to inspire change through writing.

Art into Words: Developing Young Writers Through Art and Visual Thinking

A creative writing unit devised by Purnima and co-author Susie May, using visual art as a catalyst for poetry, critical thinking and student voice. Through close observation, interpretation and imaginative response, students transform artworks into original writing and performance.

From climate action to equality and peace, Year 7 and Year 9 students took to the stage to perform original spoken-word poetry inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The showcase celebrated the power of young voices to imagine - and help create - a better world.

Spoken Word for a Better Bangkok – Bangkok Active Festival 2026

Organised by Thai PBS, Bangkok Active Festival invited Bangkokians to imagine, debate and help shape a better future for the city. Purnima joined the festival’s creative voices with her original spoken-word poem Breathe Green, reflecting on Bangkok’s environment, the need for greener spaces and our collective vision for a healthier, more sustainable city.
