Workshops
Description
This workshop combines writing and art as participants create poems from existing texts such as newspapers, books and magazines, and add their own shapes, highlights, blackouts and illustrations to convey self-expression.
Found poetry is the experimental art of altering existing text by reordering it, changing spacing and line breaks, deleting or adding words and presenting it as a new poem. It is often likened to collaging, and can be made using other poems, books, newspaper or magazine articles, speeches, social media posts, or any other written source. In this workshop, we will explore the concept of found poetry through different creative directives, including creating erasures, cento poems and headline poetry. You will learn new and imaginative ways of engaging with the written word and expressing your emotions, and develop a knack for transforming an already existent work into one that is entirely your own.
