The Photo Response Project
Exhibition
Group exhibition at Brooklyn Art Library, New York, April 2012

Overview
About the exhibition
What is a picture worth? 1000 words? A quick sketch? Or a photo in response? The Photo Response Project invited artists to create a two-dimensional visual interpretation in response to one of five original photographs provided, using any visual medium with a size no larger than 4″ x 6″. Artists were encouraged to work with one of the five photographs, using a similar palette or subject, or allowing the photograph to inspire something new – a short story, a drawing, painting, or manipulation of the image itself. The responses were exhibited alongside the source image to illustrate the various translations and directions that can emerge from a shared source.

Rationale
‘Still Waters in Wilson’s Promontory’ (2012) is a photograph taken in response to the selected source image. The similarity in subject matter, the depiction of wavering lines across the waters, and the colour palette create an aesthetic and dialogic connection between the two photographs.
